The Shoreham Wading River Garden Club offers a $500.00 scholarship to a graduating senior at Shoreham-Wading River High School and at Riverhead High School interested in Environmental Sciences, Horticulture/Agriculture, Botany, or related fields. Applicants must include with their Application a 250-word essay stating why they will pursue these studies.
The award fund was established in 1978 at the suggestion of Agnes Allen. It is supported by member donations and by the club’s annual Plant Sale.
In 1999 the award was renamed the Agnes R. Allen Award in memory of its founder. The 2008 and 2009 awards were given in memory of Elizabeth Halama, a past president of the Garden Club and an environmental activist. In 2011 it was renamed The Shoreham Garden Club Scholarship.
