The Shoreham Garden Club has a long history in our community. It came into existence in 1929 and became a fully-fledged member of the State Federation of Garden Clubs in 1935. The Shoreham Garden Club was generally active during the warm weather months as Shoreham was primarily a summer community.
The Shoreham Garden Club held their first flower exhibit and tea on June 21, 1930 and these impressive exhibits became highly anticipated during the summer months and are still talked about today.
The Shoreham Garden Club was civic minded early on with its first project in 1934 that included the oval garden at the entrance of the Shoreham Country Club that still exists today. In addition, they used their influence to persuade the L.I.R.R. to improve the look of the grounds by the local train station. The Shoreham Garden Club became the main source for beautification in the community. They held many social events throughout the summer season such as card parties, garden parties, plays and film nights to help raise funds to support these projects.
Eighty-five years later, the Shoreham Garden Club is continuing the tradition of supporting its local community and has expanded its membership to include Wading River and other communities in the surrounding area.
